What to know in UAE

Article 19 of the UAE labour law pays overtime on basic wage: the normal hourly rate plus 25% for ordinary extra hours, and plus 50% for hours worked between 10 pm and 4 am. Shift workers are excluded from the night rate. Overtime may not exceed two hours a day, except in the cases the law allows, so long recurring overtime is worth checking.

If you work on your rest day, the employer must give you a substitute day off or pay the basic hourly wage plus 50%. The hourly wage itself is basic ÷ 30 ÷ your normal daily hours. Because the premium is on basic pay, two employees on the same total salary can earn very different overtime if their contracts split basic and allowances differently.
