How it is calculated

  • Wage used: Last basic wage.
  • Formula: 21 days’ wage per year of service.
  • Minimum service: 1 year of continuous service.
  • If you resign: Full, no reduction.
  • The law sets a minimum of 3 weeks’ basic wage per year; your contract may give more. Three weeks is calculated here as 21 days at basic ÷ 30.
  • No reduction for resignation. The award is lost only on dismissal under Article 61, which Law 9 of 2026 extends to inciting an unlawful strike.
  • An employer retirement scheme at least as generous may replace the gratuity (Article 56).

What to know in Qatar

Qatar's Labour Law No. 14 of 2004 sets a minimum gratuity of three weeks' basic wage for each year of service, once you complete one year (Article 54). Your contract may give more. Three weeks is usually converted to 21 days at basic ÷ 30, which is how the calculator works, but that conversion is a convention rather than an official formula.

Resigning does not reduce the award. Dismissal for one of the reasons in Article 61 removes it. Law No. 9 of 2026 amended the Labour Law, with implementing decisions still pending at our last review. An employer retirement scheme at least as generous may replace the gratuity (Article 56).

Check the basic figure on your contract and WPS payslip, since only basic wage counts. If your employer does not settle, keep your contract, payslips and a record of your last working day and complain to the Ministry of Labour, which refers unresolved claims to the Labour Dispute Settlement Committees.
