How it is calculated

  • Wage used: Last full wage: basic plus regular allowances.
  • Formula: 15 days’ wage for each of years 1–5, then one month’s wage for each year after 5, capped at 18 months’ wage.
  • Minimum service: none when the employer ends the contract.
  • If you resign: 0–3 yrs: 0 · 3–5 yrs: ½ · 5–10 yrs: ⅔ · 10+ yrs: full.
  • For monthly-paid workers: 15 days’ wage per year for the first 5 years, one month per year after, capped at 18 months’ wage. Daily-paid workers earn 10 and 15 days, capped at one year.
  • On resignation: nothing under 3 years, half from 3 to 5, two thirds from 5 to 10, full from 10 years. Women resigning within a year of marriage receive the full amount (Article 52).
  • The day’s wage uses monthly wage ÷ 26 working days, the common practice; the law does not fix the divisor.

What to know in Kuwait

In Kuwait the end-of-service benefit is usually called indemnity. Under the Private Sector Labour Law No. 6 of 2010, monthly-paid workers earn 15 days' wage for each of the first five years and one month for each year after, on the last full wage including regular allowances. The total is capped at 18 months' wage.

Resignation reduces the indemnity under Article 53 as commonly applied: nothing under three years, half from three to five, two thirds from five to ten, and the full amount from ten years. Sources differ on whether exactly five or ten years falls in the higher tier; the calculator places exactly five years in the two-thirds tier. Women resigning within a year of marriage receive the full amount (Article 52).

The day's wage uses monthly wage ÷ 26 working days. That is the common practice, not a figure fixed by the law, so a ÷ 30 calculation will come out lower. Expatriates and Kuwaitis are both covered; Kuwaitis receive the indemnity in full alongside their PIFSS pension.
