How it is calculated
- Entitlement: 30 days.
- Day’s wage: monthly wage ÷ 30.
- At least 30 days a year (2.5 days per month); less than a full year earns leave pro rata.
Worked example
An employee on BHD 500.00 a month, with 6 years of service and 10 unused days when leaving:
| Annual leave | 30 days |
| Annual leave pay | BHD 500.00 |
| Payout for 10 unused days | BHD 166.67 |
|---|
Unused leave in your final settlement
Untaken leave is paid out when the contract ends. On a wage of BHD 500.00 a month (BHD 16.67 a day):
| Unused days | Payout |
|---|---|
| 5 days | BHD 83.33 |
| 10 days | BHD 166.67 |
| 15 days | BHD 250.00 |
| 21 days | BHD 350.00 |
| 30 days | BHD 500.00 |
What to know in Bahrain
Article 58 gives at least 30 days of paid annual leave a year, which works out at 2.5 days for each month of service. If you have worked less than a full year, your leave is earned pro rata. The calculator values each day at monthly wage ÷ 30.
Leave earned but not taken is paid when your contract ends, alongside the leaving indemnity. Because the indemnity may now be split between your employer and the SIO, check that the unused-leave payout is listed as its own item in your final settlement, and ask who pays it if that is unclear.
